The Puppenbrücke is the first bridge built of stone in the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.
Detailed description
(Almost) every child in Lübeck knows the Geibel verse "Zu Lübeck auf der Brücken...".
To Lübeck on the bridges,
There stands the god Mercury,
He shows in all the playsOlympic figure.
He knew nothing of shirts
In the peace of his gods,
Therefore he turns his bare bottom to all strangers.
The eight original sandstone figures depicting the god Mercury and Neptune, for example, as well as virtues such as harmony, peace and prudence, were created by Dietrich Jürgen Boy between 1774 and 1776. They have been in the St. Annen Museum since 1984. On the Dolls' Bridge you can only see replicas of the precious statues
Incidentally, it is largely unknown that there is a continuation of the verse.
Next to it on the bridge, there is another lady made of stone
She sees the elongated back and doesn't like it at all.
She's seen it for a hundred years and if she wasn't mute
she would have said long ago: hey Mercury, why don't you turn around?
