Description
Detailed description
At the Overbeck-Gesellschaft, contemporary art meets an architectural gem right in the heart of Lübeck. Throughout the year, the space hosts exhibitions by renowned artists – exciting, diverse, and often full of surprises.
The pavilion, designed in 1928 by Wilhelm Bräck, is a rare highlight of Neues Bauen (New Objectivity) in Schleswig-Holstein – clear, modern, and full of character. In the garden of the Behnhaus-Drägerhaus, you’ll also discover a very special work of art: the golden Daphne (1930) by Renée Sintenis. So striking that the MoMA in New York acquired a copy – today, she stands both there and here in Lübeck.
Since its founding in 1918, the Overbeck-Gesellschaft has been a space for discovery, new perspectives, and experimental art. Names like Josef Albers, Kiki Smith, Haegue Yang, and Hanne Darboven show just how much art history has been – and continues to be – made here.
