Detailed description
St. Giles stands at the heart of Lübeck’s former craftsmen’s and farmers’ quarter, on the eastern slope of the Old Town hill toward the Wakenitz River. The present three-aisled hall church dates from the early 14th century and features a richly decorated interior.
Visitors can admire magnificent Gothic wall paintings, as well as Baroque and Renaissance elements and numerous art treasures. Highlights include the beautifully carved singers’ choir by Tönnies Evers the Younger (1587) and the Gothic murals in the choir and tower hall.
In this video, city guide Anna Carlzon Behnke, originally from Sweden, offers fascinating insights into St. Giles’s Church.
