Paddle your canoe, rent an electric boat or a SUP

Life is a long, calm river and that’s the way it is with the Trave. Take the helm yourself and calmly circumnavigate the historic Old Town with an electric boat, canoe or SUP. Decide your own tempo and feel free and without care. Glide noiselessly past the picturesque façades of the houses on Obertrave, the green banks of the historical ramparts, the old harbour warehouses on the quayside and the smart, traditional sailing ships in Museum Harbour. Follow the gentle current under the many bridges and rediscover the Old Town from the water.

A particularly picturesque experience is a canoe trip along the Wakenitz, known as the “Amazon of the North”. The former inner-German border ran along its eastern bank, and the river connects Lake Ratzeburg with the River Trave. Fährhaus Rothenhusen, picturesquely situated on the northern shore of Lake Ratzeburg, is one possible starting or finishing point. Stop for a break on the lakeside terrace and enjoy something to eat before continuing your day.
