Description
A bronze sculpture of the composer Johannes Brahms greets visitors in the immediate vicinity of the "Bridge of Love".
Detailed description
Born in Hamburg in 1833, the artist himself had no connection to our Hanseatic city during his lifetime. Nevertheless, Lübeck is a popular destination for lovers of his music today. The nearby Lübeck University of Music, located close to the sculpture, acquired the largest private Brahms collection, including music manuscripts, letters and photos, from which the Brahms Institute developed.
The statue shows Brahms in casual clothes and a hat, with a jacket in his hand, taking a walk. Fitting, as the High Romantic composer is said to have thought of several melodies while out walking.
