A piece of living history from the 16th century.

Lübeck’s oldest pub offers changing live music, home cooking with draught beer for those that like it.

This popular, traditional bar with a terrace has been in existence since 1589. This makes it Lübeck’s oldest public house. In early 1552, the customs officer lived in “Im alten Zolln”, formerly known as “De olde Tollbode”. The dark, top-fermented full-bodied beer with its earthy malt flavour in the Northern brewing tradition, is only weakly hopped and has a refreshing, aromatic taste, and it goes down especially well. The kitchen supplies savoury dishes to go with it. Alte Zolln is also a popular meeting place and it offers live music. Fans of the card game Doppelkopf meet here. From opera fans to those who prefer cartoons, everyone joins in the singing, laughter, music-making and first and foremost the socialising.
