Niederegger

Lübeck

Not just for sweet tooth

The triumphal march of marzipan around the world began in Lübeck. Georg Niederegger (1777 - 1856) founded the manufactory, which is still based here and remains family-owned to this day.

In the Old Town directly opposite the town hall is the famous Café Niederegger with the Marzipan Museum. On the second floor, it presents the history of the "harem confection" and takes guests on a long journey through time that the almond speciality has taken from the Orient to Lübeck over many centuries.  The 12 life-size personalities made of marzipan are an unmissable attraction: from Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen to Thomas Mann and Wolfgang Joop, all fans of the famous Niederegger marzipan. The most beautiful marzipan souvenirs, above all the magnificent Holsten Gate made of pure marzipan, can be bought on the ground floor. Even the smallest figures such as the cute teddy bears, the lucky pigs or the well-known colourful fruits made of marzipan are small works of art.
Guided tours, marzipan modelling and special events on request.
