Sacred Heart Church

The Sacred Heart church at Parade is the Roman Catholic church in Lübeck.

This brick basilica located not far from the Lübeck Cathedral was built from 1888 to 1891, giving Lübeck's Catholics their own church again after over 350 years.
As a result of the liturgical reform  the formerly neo-Gothic furnishings were completely replaced by a free-standing altar after 1973. Since 1955, the crypt of the church houses the memorial to the Lübeck martyrs, the three chaplains who worked at the Sacred Heart Church, Hermann Lange, Eduard Müller and Johannes Prassek, as well as the Protestant pastor Karl Friedrich Stellbrink, who were executed together in 1943. There’s an interesting exhibition documenting the work of the clergymen during National Socialism and the political developments of that time.
